What's New With SimpleRisk 20240726-001 Release

SimpleRisk Core

The SimpleRisk 20240726-001 release marks the introduction of an entirely new user interface. With any overhaul this involved we do expect to see and have already identified some small bugs with this release and if you are currently on this version we recommend upgrading.

20240726

The following change was made to improve usability:

  • The SimpleRisk user interface has been updated, reorganized, and improved. This upgrade is a result of the transition to Bootstrap5 to handle the UI elements.
  • Added the ability to view and delete tags through the SimpleRisk API
  • Made improvements to the speed and accuracy of the Dynamic Risk Report

This release includes the following bug fix:

  • Fixed an issue where a URL was updated in the MFA chain breaking the ability to create new MFA accounts. This has been resolved and accounts can now add MFA without issue.

This release included the following  fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where if services.simplerisk.com became unavailable the SimpleRisk login process would fail.
  • Updated the left-hand side navigation panel to provide a better visual separation between the top level menu item and the second level menu items.
  • Migrated the MFA QR code creation to be handled locally instead of through an online QR generator service
  • Removed external dependencies on ajax.googleapis.com for jquery and bootstrap
  • Moved installation of Bootstrap from Composer to the Javascript node_modules directoryMoved jquery, jqueryui, select2 and sorttable from Composer to node_modules.

The SimpleRisk Extras are the paid for functionality that extend the features of the SimpleRisk Core.  This release targets bugs with customization and notification that were reported by users.

The full list of updates to Extras are as follows:

Incident Management Extra

  • Fixed an issue when an incident summary is updated, the new summary was not reflected until the page is refreshed.

Risk Assessment Extra

  • On the Questionnaire Results page added a Settings Cog that allows users to determine what fields are displayed in the Questionnaire Results table.
  • Added column filters underneath the column headers like we do in the Dynamic Risk Report to the Questionnaire Results page and removed the filter section at the top.
  • Added the ability to add file attachments in the questionnaire results of an assessment.
  • Added a “Not Approve” option for questionnaires.
  •  Improved result filtering to have further functionality more in line with other pages in SimpleRisk.
  • Added a column, hidden by default, to display “Last Comment” on the Questionnaires Results page.

Upgrade Extra

  • Added a health check for MySQL >= 5.7
  • Updated the upgrade process so that each time the database upgrade is run, it deletes the simplesaml tables in the database so that it forces them to be recreated the next time they are used.
  • Upgrading will now delete the /tmp/simplesaml directory, if it exists, after the release upgrade process finishes. This prevents issues with changes in the topography of the SimpleSAML library we have observed with select previous releases.

API Extra

  • Started implementing APIv2 calls into SimpleRisk Core functions. As we continue forward all new functions will be using this API and we will over time transition to the V2 entirely. This allows the SimpleRisk API to be self documenting as well as provide a user interface for building test calls and executing them.
