About the SimpleRisk 20240726-001 Release

The New SimpleRisk User Interface

Hey there!  SimpleRisk Founder and CEO, Josh Sokol, here with a special announcement.

The July 26, 2024 SimpleRisk release which includes our new user interface is finally ready for Production.

We have been working on this release for over two years in order to combine the intuitive user interface that organizations associate with SimpleRisk with a fresh new look and feel that is applied consistently throughout the application.  We have ensured feature parity with the SimpleRisk you all know and love while simultaneously setting us up for future enhancements such as the ability to customize your SimpleRisk color scheme and logo.

This release also includes a number of enhancements designed to ensure the long-term reliability and security of the platform.  We removed all reliance upon Highcharts and their proprietary licensing in favor of Chart.js’s MIT license.  We replaced the no longer supported Epiphany API framework with the newer and more efficient Leaf PHP.  We also replaced the Jobby cron framework and it’s multiple abandoned dependencies with the more modern Job-Runner framework.  And with our move to using the Bootstrap 5 UI framework, we were able to either upgrade or entirely eliminate most of the Javascript packages we utilize in SimpleRisk.

Frankly, I absolutely love the new SimpleRisk and think you will too.  Let me take a moment to show you a few of the basics that have changed.

First, you’ll notice that the menu options along the top are no longer there.  These menu options have all been moved to the left navigation sidebar as expandable sections.  This results in an overall cleaner look, but also leaves the top section open for some future enhancements like a notifications widget.

Second, note the hamburger menu at the top just to the right of the SimpleRisk logo.  Clicking this will hide the left navigation sidebar entirely, giving you more of your screen real estate back while analyzing your GRC data.

Third, you’ll see that Vulnerability and Incident Management are now explicitly included menu items in the left navigation sidebar.  For far too long, these were treated as second-class citizens in SimpleRisk and are now directly accessible from anywhere in the application.

Hopefully this little tease is enough to get you excited about the new SimpleRisk and all that we will be working towards in the near future.  This new release is available for download or upgrades on July 26, 2024 and will be rolled out to our Hosted customers around the middle of August. If you’d like to learn more, feel free to contact us directly or stop by my BlackHat USA Arsenal demo from 11:25 AM to 12:35 PM on Wednesday, August 7th.  Thanks for taking the time to watch this video and I hope you love the new SimpleRisk as much as I do!
